5 days in Cape Town
Table Mountain, two oceans and the winelands next door. A 5-day plan.
Cape Town sits beneath a flat-topped mountain at the edge of Africa. Penguins on the beach, world-class wine an hour away and dramatic coastal drives make it one of the world's most beautiful cities.
Day by day
Day 1: Table Mountain and Bo-Kaap
Ride the cable car or hike up Table Mountain early, explore Bo-Kaap and spend the evening at the V&A Waterfront.
Day 2: The Cape Peninsula
Drive Chapman's Peak, see the penguins at Boulders Beach and continue to Cape Point.
Day 3: The Winelands
Taste wine in Stellenbosch and Franschhoek.
Day 4: History and gardens
Take the ferry to Robben Island, visit Kirstenbosch and climb Lion's Head for sunset.
Day 5: Coast day
See whales at Hermanus in season, or surf at Muizenberg.
Make it work

- Where to eat along the way: Kloof Street House, The Pot Luck Club, Mzansi.
- Getting around: Ride-hailing is the easiest way around.
Short on time, or staying longer?
With less time, keep the first days and skip the day trip. With more, add a slower day for a neighbourhood from our best areas to stay, or choose more from the full list of things to do.
Opening days and times change, and some sights close one day a week. Check before you go. Last reviewed October 2026.
